Dr. Maria Lopez Howell, is a consumer advisor for the American Dental Association (ADA), a professional organization representing approximately 155, 000 U.S. dentists.
Dr. Howell maintains a private practice in the San Antonio, Texas area and is a member of the Texas Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and the Southwest Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Howell has served as president of the Academy of Operative Dentistry. She is also a presenter in professional scientific gatherings and has co-authored numerous abstracts and articles in various areas of dentistry. She continues to serve as an adjunct clinical professor to the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School at San Antonio.
As a national spokesperson for the ADA, she also hosts its Dental Minute that provides consumer information on a variety of oral health topics and airs on English and Spanish television and radio stations throughout the United States and South America.
Dr. Howell received Bachelor of Arts degrees in biology and chemistry from St. Mary’s University and a doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. In addition, she completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency.
