Matt Young of The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology delivered a great presentation on the occupational exposure to dental mercury to a handful of dental school administrators at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) conference. Prior to the event he had sent an email to every dental school in the country. It was ashame more people didn’t show up as he delivered a powerful message.
People like Matt have been trying for years to get the dental profession to acknowledge this widespread problem. It always amazes me how reluctant dentists are to knowing this information when it not only affects their health, but those of their employees and patients. It will be a sad day for dentistry when litigation will force the profession as a whole to obey occupational safety regulations to protect staff.
