After a few weeks of juggling schedules, constant planning and equipment tweaking our first shoot is upon us. Tomorrow we leave before the crack of dawn for Lexington, Kentucky to film biochemist Boyd Haley, professor emeritus and former head of the chemistry department at the University of Kentucky. Among other things his ground breaking research has shown that mercury can cause the major biochemical hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease. This would seem like a no brainer and should come as no surprise to those who know that mercury is a potent neurotoxin.
Despite a lot of research and tests, I’m still concerned about the ease of use of our Franken-Cam (Canon 5D Mark2 camera rig + lots of additional equipment). While the 5D Mark2 is a wonderful full frame camera that offers us a wide assortment of lens options, working around the poor in camera audio has been a challenge. I can see that this camera rig will be a work in progress, but I’ll those details for another blog post.
