I got invited to show our fundraising trailer to the membership of the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine (IABDM) at their fall 2012 conference, being hosted in Washington DC. Hal Huggins, Chris Shade and Joe Mercola were giving presentations to those in attendance.
One of the great thing about going to these meetings is that we get to see old friends we’ve met along the journey of making this film. We met Matt Carpenter at an IAOMT meeting in St Louis, back in 2011. Part of his heartfelt interview made it into our film trailer. So many of these dentists have been personally affected by the effects of mercury exposure they consider themselves lucky to have found the root cause of their ill health.
Both IABDM and IAOMT member Dave Warwick was running the audio visuals and after hours working on a presentation to give to the dental school in Alberta Canada on occupational exposure to dental mercury.
The community of people concerned about this subject are pretty tightly knit, and they support each others efforts. Thus it was curious that Charlie Brown, of Consumers For Dental Choice, someone with whom we’ve previously interviewed and featured prominently on our website, would not engage with me when I tried to have conversation with him. He avoided eye contact and walked off hastily several times. Curious behavior to say the least.
The response to the film trailer has been overwhelmingly positive and has opened many doors. The largest response seems to come from the visualization of mercury vapor, which has never been visualized like we’ve done it. In the run up to releasing our kickstarter fundraising campaign I tried, without luck, to get it featured on Dr. Mercola’s website, since he is a huge advocate on this issue and regularly features stories and videos regarding mercruy dental fillings, i thought he would be interested. Heck, he has even used videos from our mercuryexposure.info website. So when I found out he was presenting to the IABDM I was estatic that I could finally show him what I considered to be game changing footage of mercury vapor.
Unfortunately things didn’t go as I’d hoped they would. After his presentation Dr. Mercola was gracious enough to speak to a few people, so I thought great, he is accessible and open to conversation with others. I had the ipad ready to go with the part of the trailer showing our unique visualization. He came towards me and I introduced myself, with the setup of what I wanted to show him. He was immediately dismissive and said he’d seen the “smoking tooth” video before. When I tried to explain that our footage was different and even more dramatic he cut me off and said he didn’t have time. Then he asked where the bathroom was.
Fair enough, he had to go the bathroom and is a busy guy, cause he is Joe Mercola. I could have let it go at that, but after returning from the bathroom, he proceeded to take a seat not far away from me. Over the course of the next 30 minutes 6 different people approached him and he talked at length with each of them. He got up and walked by where I was sitting. On his way back I tried to engage him again, saying it would just take a minute or two of his time. This time he was not polite in declining my advances and came off as quite rude. He returned to his seat where he continued to check his phone and talk with the random strangers who approached him.
